Course description
The course is taught in a modular format. Each module consists of several evidence-based lectures, to cover the key information required. Practical exercises train participants in the application of various techniques. Small group discussions help participants to understand decision-making and management skills.
Course objectives
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Apply reduction techniques in fracture management, with attention to soft tissues
- Assess and treat complex diaphyseal and (peri)articular fractures using advanced application techniques
- Demonstrate strategies for assessing and treating open fractures and soft-tissue injuries
- Initiate appropriate management for patients with pelvic injuries and polytrauma
- Recognize complications and manage them accordingly
Target participants
This course is targeted at surgeons who are at the threshold of becoming independent surgeons, as well as fully-qualified surgeons with specialty in trauma orthopedics. Participants must have already completed the AOTrauma Course—Basic Principles of Fracture Management and actively involved in trauma management.
Course preparation and evaluation
Course participants are expected to complete the pre-course online self-assessment and module on fracture reduction. This helps the participants to prepare, and allows the faculty to tailor the course according to participant needs.
After the course, an online, post-course self-assessment provides participants with an opportunity to review important course topics. In order to support self-directed learning, a range of additional online resources are also offered
