REGINA MARIA health network, leader in medical services, announces the takeover of Columna Medical Center, the largest clinic in assisted human reproduction and in vitro fertilization, with a turnover of 4.5 million euros in 2020. Excellence of specialists and experience gained in the ten years of activity of the clinic they come in addition to the medical services already offered by the Network for women’s health.
Columna Medical Center completes the portfolio of the REGINA MARIA Network with integrated and personalized services for infertility problems offered by specialists with nationally recognized experience and with remarkable results, comparable to those of renowned clinics in Europe. Out of the total of almost 800 embryo transfers with thawed embryos, made during 2020, 1 in 2 women under the age of 35 and 1 in 3 women of advanced reproductive age obtained the much desired tasks. The clinic serves 17,000 patients annually and has performed 1,000 in vitro fertilization treatments in 2021.

Infertility is diagnosed as a result of complex investigations, laboratory tests and imaging.
In many cases, infertility can be an effect of other undiagnosed conditions such as endometriosis, a complex and difficult-to-diagnose disease that affects women in the fertile period (15-50 years). About 40-50% of women with infertility suffer from endometriosis. The advanced age at which women become pregnant is also an important factor in the problem of infertility, associated with an entire pathology.
The subject of infertility, in Romania, faces several social and legislative barriers.
Although in many cases it is a medical condition, when there is a fertility problem in the couple, the partners find it difficult to talk openly and start investigations together. This is also caused by the misconception that fertility is associated with the woman and, for this reason, very often, when a pregnancy is not obtained naturally, the woman is the one who starts to investigate. Experience shows that half of the cases are male infertility.
Another barrier is the legislative one, Romania being the only country in the EU that does not have a law for in vitro fertilization. In 2010, the Ministry of Health approved a subprogram that currently offers funding of 10,000 lei / procedure, but the conditions are restrictive for many couples. For example, in other European countries, the state supports in vitro fertilization procedures, fully settling an average of 3 procedures.
