Spiegelberg offers you the following solutions:

1. Intracranial pressure Monitors

All Spiegelberg ICP monitors have a practical plug-and-play function. After placement of the air-pouch probe, connect it, switch on the monitor and wait for the automatic calibration¹. The latest Spiegelberg ICP monitors come with batteries that last up to 6 hours. Every ICP monitor is compatible with most standard patient monitors.

Accurate measuring results & data analysis

Spiegelberg ICP monitors run an automatic recalibration process to ensure accurate measurement results¹. A clinical trial² has confirmed that the maximum drift over a period up to 28 days was only +-2 mmHg.

The Spiegelberg ICP monitor HDM 29.2, manufactured from light-weight aluminium, provides accurate measurement results and is particularly simple to operate. With rechargeable batteries the ICP monitor HDM 29.2 can be operated independently of a mains supply for up to six hours.

2. Intracranial pressure Probes

The Spiegelberg Silverline® ventricular probe with cranial bolt is fixed in the cranial bone with a cranial bolt. After making a burr hole and opening the dura, the probe is placed in the ventricle with the bolt in place. Then the bolt is pushed down to the burr hole and screwed into the cranial bone. Now the Silverline® ventricular probe can be fixed with the clamping nut. The drainage tube is connected with the included Luer Lock connector and then to a drainage set with a Luer Lock connector. The air tube is connected to the Spiegelberg ICP monitor.

The Spiegelberg True tunnelling Intraventricular Probe is an intracranial pressure-measuring probe that is surgically tunnelled from the burr hole with the trocar with thread tip. The air tube of the probe is fitted with a connector to enable tunnelling. It is attached to the trocar with thread tip along with the drainage tube. After tunnelling the trocar is removed. The air tube is then connected to the Spiegelberg ICP monitor with the extension. The drainage tube must be connected with the Luer Lock connector and thus to a drainage kit.

The Spiegelberg ventricular probe measures the intraventricular pressure using an Air-Pouch mounted in the distal end of a dual lumen probe. A lumen transmits the pressure to the ICP monitor, and the second lumen drains the CSF.

The Spiegelberg tunnelling parenchymal probe is a probe with trocar used for measuring the intraparenchymal pressure. The probe is inserted into the parenchyma through a burr hole and is surgically tunnelled from the burr hole with the trocar. To facilitate the tunnelling, the air tube is fitted with a connector that attached to the trocar. After tunnelling, the trocar is removed and the air tube is connected to the Spiegelberg ICP monitor with the extension. The tunnelling parenchymal probe is fixed to the skin with a suturing flap.

The Spiegelberg epidural probe is designed for postoperative application after a major trepanation. The probe is placed directly under the bone flap. After mobilisation of a sufficiently large area of the dura, the Spiegelberg epidural probe can be inserted between the dura and the cranial bone through a burr hole.

3. Catheters & EVD Kits

The Spiegelberg Silverline® ventricular drainage catheters are used for CSF drainage to relieve elevated intracranial pressure (ICP). Indications include subarachnoidal haemorrhage (SAH), traumatic brain injury (TBI) and acute hydrocephalus. Silverline® ventricular drainage catheters are made of radiopaque polyurethane. The round tip is closed and the catheter has depth markings. The special silver additive reduces the possibility of microbial colonisation of the product surface. The kit includes stylet, trocar, Luer-Lock connector, slotted suturing attachment and cap.

Spiegelberg Silverline® subdural drainage catheters are specifically indicated for drainage after evacuation of chronic subdural haematoma (CSH) and has a 6 cm long perforation zone near the tip. The patented additive of the Silverline® subdural drainage catheter reduces the possibility of microbial colonisation of the surface of the device. The Silverline® subdural drainage catheter comes with stylet, trocar, Luer-Lock connector and slotted suturing attachment.

The Spiegelberg ventricular drainage catheters are used for CSF drainage to relieve elevated intracranial pressure (ICP), for example in cases of subarachnoidal haemorrhage, traumatic brain injury and acute hydrocephalus. Spiegelberg ventricular drainage catheters are made of radiopaque polyurethane. The round tip is closed and the catheter has depth markings. The kit includes stylet, trocar, Luer-Lock connector and a slotted suturing attachment.

The Spiegelberg external Silverline® lumbar drainage catheters are used for CSF drainage during treatment. External lumbar drainage is used to treat CSF fistulas, to perform invasive diagnostic evaluation of normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH), and to reduce the risk of spinal cord ischaemia during thoracoabdominal aortic surgery. The Spiegelberg external Silverline® lumbar drainage catheters have a special silver additive that reduces the possibility of microbial colonisation of the surface of the device. The kit includes Tuohy needle, Luer-Lock connector and a slotted suturing attachment.

The Spiegelberg external ventricular drainage kit drains and collects cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) for external ventricular drainage. The kit contains a tube connector with a Luer-Lock for connection to the ventricular catheter or a probe with drainage function, a drip chamber and a replaceable drainage bag. The tube connector contains an access port. It also includes two three-way stopcocks for connection of a pressure transducer close to or away from the body, a pump chamber and a check valve. The drip chamber is aerated with a replaceable filter. All tube connectors except for the ones for the filter and drainage bag are permanently glued in place. The internal diameters of all connecting components and stopcocks are the same as that of the tube to avoid narrowing that can cause clogging.

The Spiegelberg external ventricular drainage kit with plate and clamp drains and collects cerebrospinal fluid for external ventricular drainage. The kit comprises a tube connector with a Luer-Lock for connection to the ventricular catheter, a drip chamber, and a replaceable drainage bag. The tube connector contains an access port. The Spiegelberg EVD kit also includes two three-way stopcocks for connection of a pressure transducer close to or away from the body, a pump chamber and a check valve. The drip chamber is aerated with a replaceable filter. The drip chamber is mounted on a plate with scales in mmHg and cmH2O, which allows exact positioning at the patient´s foramen of Monroe level. All tube connectors except for the ones for the filter and drainage bag are permanently glued in place. The internal diameters of all connecting components and stopcocks are identical to prevent potential blockages.

The Spiegelberg external ventricular drainage bag drains and collects cerebrospinal fluid for external ventricular drainage, external subdural drainage and external lumbar drainage. It is indicated whenever levelling of the drained quantity and positioning at height are not essential. The ventricular drainage bag has a tube with a Luer-Lock connector for connection to the catheter. An access port and a check valve are integrated in the bag. The external ventricular drainage bag is aerated by a replaceable filter, which is also available from Spiegelberg.

The Spiegelberg filter for the external ventricular drainage kit has a hydrophobic diaphragm and a special bulbous design to minimise the possibility of blockage in contact with cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) compared to conventional standard filters (disc filters).

4. IAP Catheters for measuring Intra-abdominal Pressure

Spiegelberg IAP catheters continuously measure the intraabdominal pressure via the air pouch at the tip of the catheter and they are compatible with all Spiegelberg ICP monitors

Easy to use

Spiegelberg IAP catheters can be used immediately, because they do not require calibration before use. The IAP catheter is inserted like a nasogastric tube. There is an air pouch at the tip. The catheter has two lumens: one lumen for connection of the air pouch to the Spiegelberg ICP monitor and one lumen for insertion of the guide wire.

Particularly robust

Because the technology is not in the probe but only in the monitor, the Spiegelberg IAP catheters are particularly non-sensitive and are noted for their durability.
