The official opening of the international conference “Biomaterials, Tissue Engineering & Medical Devices” BIOMMEDD’2022, took place at the Palace of Parliament-Salon “Dimitrie Cantemir”, followed by the round table The role of materials, medical devices and medical engineering in medicine on July 20, 2022. The event was attended by prominent representatives of the Presidential Administration (Presidential Advisor Diana Loreta Păun), of the Romanian Senate (Senator Florin Bodog), of the Government (Minister of Research and Digitization Sebastian Burduja, State Secretary of the Romanian Ministry of Health–Andrei Baciu, State Secretary from the Ministry of Health Aurel Mohan, State Secretary from the Ministry of Health Tiberius Marius Bradatan), of the academic environment (Academician Alexandru Vlad Ciurea, Prof. Adrian Badea-President of the Romanian Academy of Scientists, Prof. Horațiu Moldovan–Academy of Sciences Medical), of the organizers of the event (Mihnea Costoiu-Rector of POLITEHNICA University of Bucharest, Prof. Cătălin Cirstoiu-Carol Davila University of Medicine and Pharmacy Bucharest, Prof. Iulian Antoniac-Romanian Society of Biomaterials) and prestigious guests from abroad representing 12 countries from all continents (Academician Nicholas Peppa s, Prof. Joachim Kohn, Prof. James Kirkpatrick, Prof. Geoff Richards, Prof. Matteo Santin, Prof. Gilson Khang, Prof. Deon Bezuidenhout and others) and from the country (Prof. Cătălin Popa, Prof. Viorel-Tudor Țigănescu, Prof. Norina Forna, Prof. Corneliu Munteanu, Prof. Kamel Earar, Prof. Horia Manolea, Prof. Cristian Mihail Dinu, Daniela Raiciu, and others).
There were interesting discussions regarding education and research in the medical field, from the perspective of materials, medical devices and medical engineering, highlighting both the importance and usefulness of medical engineers for public health units in Romania and the need to stimulate research activities in the field of engineering medical and materials engineering for medicine.
